Higher Education Student Body Diversification as Glocal Practice

Georg Simmel's assertion that strangeness organizes nearness and remoteness helps to understand how the social category of First Generation College Student (FGCS, first in the family to attend college) is used at a public university in the United States southwest. Membership Categorization Analysis (MCA) is applied to ethnographic data. Difference categories and devices morph into those of distance in an interaction where a recruitment convention substitutes for a handshake between a boy and some adults in the hallway of a student center. These changes imbricate with those found in the analysis of a student-persistence sequence of an educational marketing recruitment DVD. As evidence of glocal practice or the global impact of local contact gestures of student body diversification or massification policies directed at FGCSs (and others), they appear to coincide with distribution and recognition social justice projects that are inviting us to reach out across distances, short and long.La afirmación de Georg Simmel que la extrañeza organiza la cercanía y la lejanía ayuda a entender cómo se utiliza la categoría social de estudiante universitario de primera generación (EUPG, primer integrante de la familia en la educación superior) en una universidad pública en el suroeste de Estados Unidos. El análisis de pertenencia categórica (MCA, Membership Categorazation Analysis) se aplica a datos etnográficos. Tanto unas categorías y unos dispositivos de diferencia se transforman en unos de distancia en una interacción donde una convención de reclutamiento se llega a sustituir por un apretón de manos entre un niño y algunos adultos en el pasillo de un centro estudiantil universitario. Estos mismos cambios se encuentran imbricados en el análisis de una secuencia de persistencia estudiantil en un DVD que fue producido por una institución de educación para atraer y reclutar a estudiantes. Como evidencia de unas prácticas glocales o del impacto global de unos gestos locales de contacto de unas políticas dirigidas hacia los EUPG (y otros) con la finalidad de la diversificación o la masificación del cuerpo estudiantil, éstas parecen coincidir con los proyectos de distribución y reconocimiento de la justicia social, mismos que se nos invitan a extendernos a través de distancias cortas y largas

many philosophers have combined a Platonic metaphysics about abstract entities and a theistic conception according to which God is the creator of ‘heaven and earth’, of all ‘visible and ‘invisible’. Supposedly, God is the unique entity a se, i. e., the unique entity on which every other depends ontologically. It has been a traditional contention of Platonists, nevertheless, that abstract things, like universals or numbers, are independent. How are these theses compatible? Several critics have argued that they are not. A theist ontology imposes —for them— the outright rejection of Platonism or, eventually, a milder form of Platonism that substitutes universals and other abstracta by ‘concepts’ or ‘ideas’ in the divine intellect. Philosophers of Platonic convictions have tried to assuage the conflict introducing restrictions in divine aseity or by subjecting universals to some form of ‘absolute creation’. None of these attempts has been successful. In this work a different approach is presented and defended. It is argued that the universal of ‘deity’, W, is identical to God. This is a radicalization of the doctrine of divine simplicity

El Bronce final en el Sureste de la Península Ibérica: una (re)visión desde la arqueología funeraria

En este trabajo se han analizado las manifestaciones funerarias que se desarrollaron durante el Bronce Final en las tierras del Sureste peninsular. La base fundamental para el estudio de estos conjuntos son las excavaciones de los hermanos Siret a finales del siglo XIX e inicios del XX. Tales manifestaciones evidencian una marcada personalidad cultural, que se manifiesta en la contemporaneidad de los ritos de inhumación e incineración, en ocasiones compartiendo un mismo sepulcro, o en el uso de espacios funerarios tan diversos como serían las pequeñas necrópolis de incineración o las sepulturas colectivas de inhumación o de inhumación/incineración, observándose, en relación a éstas, la recurrente reutilización de antiguas tumbas megalíticas.This work analyses funerary practices developed in the Late Bronze Age in the south eastern Spain. The fundamental bases for the study of these graves are the digs carried out by L. and H. Siret in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These expressions point to a solid cultural personality. It is evident in aspects such as the co-existence of burial rites such as inhumation and cremation, often in the same grave, or the wide range of funeral spaces, such as small cremation cemeteries, or collective inhumated burials and graves with a mixture of the two rites, in relation to which we may observe the recurrent reuse of older megalithic tombs.Este trabajo se ha realizado dentro del marco del proyecto HAR2010-20479 del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación “Bronce Final y Edad del Hierro en el Levante y el Sureste de la Península Ibérica: Cambio cultural y procesos de etnogénesis”

Teorías anti-realistas de la verdad

Indexación: Revista UNABEs característico de una concepción anti-realista de la verdad y el significado que la verdad sea comprendida en términos de verificación. No cualquier forma de entender esta «verificación» puede constituir un predicado de verdad aceptable, pues normalmente los estados epistémicos en los que se encuentra un sujeto son variables en el tiempo y entre diferentes sujetos, incluso si esos sujetos están considerando la misma evidencia. Un predicado de verdad aceptable debe ser estable en el tiempo y entre diferentes sujetos, y debe ser también aplicable sin gradaciones. Varias propuestas se han hecho de estos predicados de verdad anti-realistas, Aquí se van a considerar dos de las propuestas más interesantes: el concepto de aceptabilidad racional ideal (Hilary Putnam) y el concepto de súper-aseverabilidad (Crispin Wright). En ambos casos se presenta una dificultad sistemática seria y crucia!' Ambos predicados de verdad pueden ser estables sólo al costo de convertirse en nociones excesivamente fuertes desde el punto de vista epistemológico. Los predicados de verdad anti-realistas parecen funcionar, entonces, sólo bajo la hipótesis poco plausible de capacidades epistémicas exorbitantes. Abstract: It is characteristic of an anti-realist conception of truth and meaning that truth is construed in terms of «verification». Not any construction is a feasible truth-predicate for normally the epistemic states in which a subject may be are variable in time and across different subjects even considering the same evidence. A feasible truth-predicate should be stable in time and across different subjects and should be applicable on an all-or-nothing basis. Several proposals have been presented of such anti-realist's truth-predicates. Here two of the most interesting proposals are discussed: the concept of ideal rational acceptability (Hilary Putnam) and the concept of superassertibility (Crispin Wright). In both of these cases a serious and crucial systematic difficulty is found after examination. Both truth-predicates become sufficiently stable only at the cost ofbecoming exceedingly strong from the epistemological point ofview. The truth-predicates required for anti-realism seems to work, then, only under the implausible hypothesis of exorbitant epistemic capabilities
